Please note:

  • Quite a few shows will be added to Edfringe between now and the end of August, even after the programme is printed; it is worth checking their website more than once (their Advanced Search function lets you see recent additions). More will be visible on the Free Fringe and Free Festival websites, as many of their shows are not listed on Edfringe at all.
  • The Book Festival shows - some of which will be live-streamed - will be listed on their own website.
  • The Shedinburgh shows - a mix of theatre and comedy, including two ACMS Board Members - are also listed on their own website
  • All the big venues sell tickets direct from their own websites and box offices, and it can be worth checking with them if something is sold out on Edfringe.
  • Company holds might be made available a short time before shows start; venues like The Stand and the Traverse theatre both accept returns, so might have last-minute availability too.
  • Not every show is listed on Edfringe, nor does it have to be. Extra shows might only be available from a particular venue's website and box office.
  • £/PWYW means you can either buy tickets to secure seats, or Pay What You Want on exit. A £ sign means tickets must be purchased in advance. PWYW shows are Pay What You Want on exit. PWYC or donate shows have several Pay What You Can tiers of ticket price you can buy in advance to secure seats, or you can pay what you choose on exit.
  • Pay What You Want (PWYW) shows are unticketed, and will be seated on a first-come first-served basis. For popular free shows it's a good idea to arrive early and queue, or even get a token to secure your entry.
  • Most performers who take donations will have a card reader as well as a keen enthusiasm for cash. Bank notes especially. Not coppers.
  • Even if a Monkey Barrel show is listed online as sold out, they keep back 10% of each room's ticket allocation for people who queue up on the day, so it is always worth arriving early, checking with doorstaff and getting in the right queue.
  • Most shows do not allow late-comers. ACMS does, provided there's space. (And some folk do leave in the intervals, thus you can nab their seats.)
  • A show listed as e.g. 23.55 or 00:05 Aug 3 (Sun) starts laaate evening on Sunday. This is true of listings here, on Edfringe, on the venues' websites, and in the printed programme. Double-check about show dates in the Edfringe app, as they don't always follow this convention.
